Back Among the Living

Well, after a full week of being sick and three trips to the doctor, I've started the slow road to recovery. I still get tired easily, but I am so relieved! I'm grateful to just be able to do simple things like cook dinner - even do the dishes! It was so frustrating to watch Mike come home from a long day at work and be responsible for the cooking, cleaning, and taking care of a grumpy, helpless infirm. But he took it like a champ. First order of business: a giant cheesecake for the best husband ever!

Humorous Pictures
more cat pictures

Actually, I'm not sure WHAT I have, but I do know that I am sick. And I know that it's not mono, pnuemonia, a bacterial infection, and I am not pregnant. These are all good things, unfortunately, I wish I knew what the heck is wrong with me. I will be be blogging when I am back among the living.

I Heart My Mom!

Happy Mother's Day, Mommy Dearest!

The older I get, the more true this Bern Williams quote gets:
"Sooner or later we all quote our mothers."

Eye Candy Friday: One Hot Piggy

Remember Carl... very first orchid? He was a little guy when I got him in January of last year:

He lived with my mom until we moved into our house, where he has enjoyed the greenhouse window and the porch, and has gotten BIG:

He is also my very first orchid to ever put out a spike and bloom since living with me. That makes me very proud! I am officially an orchid freak.

Carl is now showing off in the sitting room - hopefully he'll be in bloom for a long time!

In the Garden

Starting off with orchids:

My Epidemdrum Radicans from Dee is still flowering! And his roots are really growing, too!

Moving on to food:
Patio Princess Tomatoes

I've been very pleased with their performance! Now if they would just hurry up and ripen!

I decided to try my hand at container gardening some herbs. I don't really know what I'm doing, but this one is Armenian basil, rosemary, and parsely. We'll see what happens!

Green Bell Pepper

Banana Pepper - good in salsa!

On to flowers:

Morning Glory

And finally, my front yard:

I can't believe we've been here for a year! We still feel so blessed to have our own home - it wasn't easy to save for it while still in college, but it was worth it! Sometimes I still walk through our space and think "this is ours!" Yes, some of our neighbors are a little strange, but at least we don't share walls with them anymore!
I have another picture of an orchid I wanted to share, but Blogger crapped out on me last-minute, so I'll try again later!

Sammy and Mike: BFF

This is Sammy, my parent's cat:

He was my cat, but when I went to college he stayed in the wilderness that is my parent's backyard and became more and more ornery. He would have hated apartment life in Gainesville, and he would hate having to be an indoor cat at my house, so he stays with my parents and has become their cat. He doesn't like many people, but he LOVES Mike. When we were at my parent's house to see my aunt and uncle, who are visiting from New Mexico, I was sent outside to take some family pictures:

My dad, grandmother, and uncle. I actually got some pretty decent pictures of them, but Sammy and Mike were distracting me with their antics:

NOTE: no kitties were harmed in the making of these pictures. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of Mike, who is still nursing the scratches on his arms.
This is how it starts:
Mike catches his attention, and Sammy hunkers down into alert-kitty mode.

The ears come back right before the pounce, aaaaaaand...

"Move along, nothing to see here..."
